In light of the coming of Chinese New Year, our club has decided to go to Chinatown this saturday to soak up the festive season.

It’s our very first outing for the year 2012, so we strongly encourage those who have not signed up to do so now!

we’re back with our monthly outing for this month of November @ MacRitchie Reservoir Park

Despite the bad weather, the turn out for the november outing was good!

Saw many familiar faces around and of course new faces too ; those who just joined the Photography Club not long ago(be it through student week or directly send us a mail through our website, we warmly welcome you into the club)

So, we all gathered at a pavillion as the rain got heavier and the organising team had an impromptu game session for us to know each other name better.

with every games played, there ought to be forfeits to make it more interesting and memorable!

and one of which is to dance around a ‘tree’

someone has to be the ‘tree’ and the other has to dance around..it’s rather embarrasing but i guess some had a good laugh at how silly it was.

Monthly Outings are usually held in the afternoon and this time round, we made it a little special!

In order to capture the beautiful city light along Singapore River, we organised a night outing  despite the busy schedules for the photography club , mainly casting call 2011 and student week for the past weeks in Sept

Time: 7pm

Meeting Point: Orchard MRT Station

Organisers were busy calling up people to ensure they are coming for the outing

while some of us are busy taking pictures while waiting for the rest…

when everyone reached, we took a bus to our starting point at jiak kim street (somewhere near zouk)

and guess what?!

we had the entire SBS bus filled with the attendees for the day (or rather , night)

upon reaching , we surprised darren & cynthia with tako balls & truffles to celebrate their birthdays(:

we then spilt into a smaller group and attempted to capture creative shots while walking along the river.

and here comes the hands on application when everyone held up their camera and put into good use of what they have learned

As mentioned by one of the organisers ,” the purpose of the outing was to create a chance for the new members  to join us on this little night trip and to share the importance of light  and how it affects photography. We hardly do night photography , and even if it’s done , it never incorporated a street movement theme to it. So we’re making it a chance to live it , and to capture it. There is far too much in life to be missed!”

And true enough, how often do we actually settle down to appreciate the beauty of light even though we see them everyday?

it was definitely a good experience for night outing while we relived a little history of Singapore and its renowned  river!

The last session was a combine session with both groups. Sze Kiat went through the photos and gave constructive comments. It was indeed a good experience for all of the participants.

Here’s what some of the members commented about the workshop.

Through the workshop, many of them gained not only technical skills. but also friendship! It was a pity that I couldn’t attend and join in the fun with them. But nonetheless, I’m glad everyone has learnt and gained something through this workshop.

Looking at the sentence above, how many of you have the same thought? Well, I have. If not for SPC, I wouldn’t even know that such a place existed. Therefore for the month of August, SPC had a trip down to Changi Boardwalk.

The Changi Boardwalk is an idyllic place to chill and sit around, looking out at the sea, the waves breaking on the rocks nearby, the water rushing up the shore and the sailboats from the Sailing club.

Not to forget, the pets! For someone who had no pets at home(me), I like getting up close with animals and interact with them. Ain’t they cuteeee?

Lastly, thanks to all members who came to support the event! The turnout was pretty good.

the day didnt end just like that.. bcos most of us continued the day to marina to capture fireworks(:

this is the 1st batch of club members who headed down to marina on the 1st saturday.

the place we were located at, has splendid view!

all thanks to some club people who went down as early as 4pm to reserve that good spot for all of us when the actual firework was only released at 810pm.

this is the 2nd batch of club members who went down on the following saturday for the fireworks shoot.

we all definitely learn something out of the entire process and it was a great learning experience with everyone helping each other and trying their best to capture the best fireworks..

Which is the real boss?

After all the prize presentation etc, it was time to break camp. Through the camp, I believe everyone has learnt from each other, be it techniques or other skills. I sincerely hope everyone has enjoyed the camp, even if some of you had to leave halfway.

Also, on behalf of the organising committee, I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to participate in the camp. Campers, OGLs, GMs, Alumni and of course the organisers

Hello, shutterbugs! Our next monthly outing for August will be at  Changi Coastal Walk! We will be shooting at Changi beach park, one of the oldest coastal park in Singapore. Can feel the kampong spirit~~

Theme for the outing: COURAGE. What is courage? Bring out your very own meaning of the theme and show it through your pictures. So come and enjoy the atmosphere with SPC and who knows, your photos might be use to showcase during student week!

Casting Call is looking for the next batch of SIM GE students to represent SIM GE in 2012 so for those who think they are able to represent SIM GE, come down and take a photo! SPC will be there taking photos of all of you so people who are interested to see how does we shoot them can come and hang around and learn too.

The tasks for the day were the game stations located at different parts of Sentosa, the list of tasks to accomplish in order to gain points to get to various game stations and most importantly, the storyboard.

And.. Of course the organizers and alumni who went around trying to snatch people’s towel!! I’m one of them almost being snatched! >< But I’m still lucky to get away with it.

You know time past so fast when you were having fun with your OG mates and shooting around, playing a fool. It was time to head back to the campus. Everyone was rather worn out from all the shootings, posing, walking and playing of the games.

But the night was still young. As a photographer, after taking pictures, here comes the post-processing (PP) part where it really tests the skill of the individuals. Dinner plus PP was done after that.

Finally, it was time to showcase everyone’s hard work and effort. Every group was asked to describe about their storyboard. I can see from them that they have not only taken nice shots but also had fun in the process. That’s what all it matters. Bonding among the team is most important. Win or lose doesn’t matter as much.

The night ended off with sweet treats. I hope everyone enjoyed the ‘amazing race’ at Sentosa as much as I do. While typing out the post and looking at all the photos, somehow I missed the fun times in camp! Hope this post does brings back all the fun memories to you!
